Quiet by design.

The short version

Nod works without a listener account. The iPhone app keeps your listening progress and preferences on your device and does not include a third-party advertising, analytics, or error-reporting SDK.

Information on your device

Nod stores listening position, completed-book status, narrator and playback preferences, timer choices, catalogue data, cached audio, and downloads on your device. It also creates a random identifier and stores it in your device Keychain. That identifier is not your name or email address and is not currently sent to Nod's services. Keychain items may remain after the app is deleted, depending on Apple's device and backup behaviour.

Diagnostics

The native app records limited diagnostic events with Apple's unified logging system on the device. The current native implementation does not send those events to Nod or to a third-party native analytics or error-monitoring service. Do not include sensitive information if you choose to send diagnostic details to support.

Catalogue, audio, and website requests

When Nod fetches catalogue updates or audio, or when you visit this website, the request reaches the providers that deliver those services. Those providers may receive technical request information such as an IP address, request time, requested file, device or browser information, and security signals. We do not add your saved progress, mood choices, or timer settings to catalogue or audio requests. The requested audio file can identify a book, narrator, and segment to the delivery provider.

Accounts and purchases

The listening app does not require an account. The Wind in the Willows is free. One optional, non-consumable in-app purchase unlocks the other eleven books in this collection. Apple processes the purchase and provides Nod with product and verified entitlement information; Nod does not receive your complete payment-card details.

Service providers and support

Apple provides in-app purchases and entitlement verification. Vercel provides the Nod website and publishing infrastructure, including delivery of catalogue and audio files. Our website currently loads Clerk authentication infrastructure through its shared layout, including on public pages. Staff use Clerk to access the private publishing tools, and Neon stores publishing and catalogue records. These website and publishing services are separate from the anonymous listening app. If you email support, we receive your address and anything you include in your message.

Retention and requests

We retain support correspondence for as long as needed to respond to and manage your request and meet applicable legal requirements. Email hugs@nodbooks.com to request access to or deletion of that correspondence. We review requests and may need to verify that the request comes from you; legal requirements may prevent deletion of some records.

Local progress and preferences remain on your device until you remove the app, subject to Apple's device and backup behaviour. Downloads can be removed in the app. Technical delivery, security, and authentication records held by our service providers follow their applicable service policies and settings; we do not promise a fixed retention period or automatic deletion of those provider records when you delete the app.

Your choices

You can remove downloaded audio in the app. Deleting the app removes its app container, including saved progress and preferences, subject to Apple's device and backup behaviour; the random Keychain identifier may persist as described above. Children

Nod is a general-audience bedtime reading app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
